(TTS)
As already announced, the TEAMS international symposium entitled “International Symposium on Restoration after Great East Japan Earthquake -Our Knowledge on the Ecosystem and Fisheries-“ was held in the Yayoi campus of the university of Tokyo at 2nd and 3rd March. We hosts had been worried about how many people joined the symposium. In practice, there were so many participants, including foreign guests, than we expected.
The first topic was the mechanisms of the great earthquake and tsunami, and their damages to Sanriku coastal region. Next topic was related issues to 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake presented by foreign guests, and comparisons with the recent earthquake were discussed. On the 1st day afternoon and the 2nd day morning, research achievements of TEAMS are presented by oral and poster sessions.
The last topic was how TEAMS should find a future path to go. Especially, how to connect the TEAMS’ activities with social communities was actively discussed. It was an exciting symposium for us young and senior scientists because we recognized that our research activities must take account of the relationship with social communities as well as scientific methodologies and results.(TTS)
